Growing in Christ, Women's Clergy Retreat
The retreat was a day to remember, we traveled from Teaneck, Trenton, Toms River and many towns in between to meet at Princeton University to fellowship and to praise God! Spearhead by Dr. Karen Jackson-Weaver and Rev. Gina Jacobs-Strain, nearly 100 women set aside this time to focus on, "Growing in Christ", a time to nourish our souls so that we could be more available and more prepared for kingdom building. We reconnected, prayed with and for each another. The day proved to be a time of refocus, re-energizing and rethinking how we do ministry. Each speaker encouraged us to examine our spiritual disciplines, balance and fervor in our ministry and to embark on new ministry opportunities that God is calling us to answer.
Rev. Borquist (right) lead us in a Bible Study of 2 Peter 1:3-6 encouraging us to pause and reflect on our spiritual disciplines and challenges that will make us stronger in our faith walk.
Rev. Dr. Glover helped us to focus on sustaining balance and fervor consistently so that our efforts are aligned with the task of sharing the gospel, from a place of well being through consistent dialog with God. Rev. Kathleen Rooney, asked us to think about prison ministry so that we do not forget or miss the opportunity to share the gospel with those that society has tried to forget.
We also had time to enjoy lunch together and to talk in small groups, allowing us to reflect upon and to share the ways that we were inspired by the wisdom we gleaned on this day, not only from our speakers but from each other, sharing heart to heart and sister to sister.
Our next Women in Ministry events will be the Annual Prayer Breakfasts on Saturday November 2, 2102 at Living Word Baptist Church, Beachwood, NJ and Saturday December 7, 2013 at St. Paul Baptist Church, Montclair, NJ. Both events will take place 9-11:30 am and registration will be on-line. Rev. Tamara Davis and Rev. Malva Wise-White will be the speakers at both breakfasts.
