Oaklyn Baptist Celebrates Three Milestones

There was much to celebrate as the Oaklyn Baptist Church gathered on Sunday, June 9th, for worship.

The congregation celebrated and thanked God for 120 years of ministry and witness in the community. The Reverend Phyllis Martin, pastor of Oaklyn Baptist, offered an uplifting message from Psalm 150:6, titled "A-B-C: Let ALL things with BREATH CELEBRATE the Lord!" The Reverend Miriam Méndez, ABCNJ Executive Minister and Senior Regional Pastor, presented the congregation with an Anniversary Certificate. She congratulated and reminded the congregation to give thanks for the past, rejoice in the present, and trust God for the future! Past members and pastors of Oaklyn were also present. Among the pastors were the Reverend Eric Hoheisel and the Reverend Wm. Kelly Grimsley.

The church was also celebrating the collective effort in completing repairs to the church steeple. The congregation, through their dedicated work this Spring, has raised ¾ of the needed funds, with the rest pledged to be received by the close of 2024.

The third aspect of the celebration involved the oldest member of the church, Mrs. Miriam Todd, who just turned 100. She has been a member of the church for 76 years and still works five days a week in the family furniture business. Oaklyn Mayor Greg Brandley presented a citation from the borough recognizing and honoring her contribution to the church and the community.
